Determining the Activation Policy
In order to determine when your eSIM will activate, it is important to check the activation policy of the eSIM. Most eSIMs will activate at the destination when they connect to a supported network. However, there are also eSIMs that will activate instantly as soon as they are installed, regardless of your current location.
Checking the Activation Policy
To find out the activation policy of an eSIM before purchasing, you can search for the country you want to buy the eSIM for, select the eSIM, and check the additional information and activation policy. After purchasing, follow these steps:
- Go to My eSIMs.
- Select Details for the eSIM you want to check.
- Click on Show more.
- Scroll down to find the Activation Policy.
Understanding the Activation Policy
The activation policy of an eSIM can either start when the eSIM connects to any supported network or start upon installation of the eSIM.
If the validity period starts when the eSIM connects to any supported network:
You can install the eSIM before traveling without activating it. This means that you can simply turn on your eSIM line once you arrive at the destination, as long as the setup has been completed as instructed on your eSIM installation page.
If the validity period starts at the installation:
The eSIM will activate instantly once you install it, even if you are not yet at the destination. This means that the eSIM will be active as soon as you complete the installation process.
